High Soundsystem
How did you choose your artist name?
My younger brother Wessel and I played b2b for the first time in the Laks located in Rotterdam. A buddy of ours named Dienaar grabbed the mic and yelled: ‘Give if it up for High Soundsystem!’. Wessel Heij and Rutger Heij, the brothers Heij. This was the beginning of High Soundsystem.
What genre of music did you grow up listening to?
My parents like a wide variety of music. From Pavarotti to the Gypsy Kings, Laura Pausini, Michael Jackson and Lenny Craviz. From Old School Funk to Disco.

What has been the highlight of your DJ career so far?
I have been able to travel abroad the last few years. For example, the trip to Mexico was really cool. Most of the time you will be accompanied by locals while travelling. Through this way of travelling you see a lot of different places as a foreigner than usual.
Would you like to release a track with someone else? And who should it be?
It’s always cool to work with someone else, because you can learn how they work and how they listen to music. It would be a dream to release a track with Jamie Jones or Hot since 82 for example.
Which music genre do you listen to when you are alone and what is your favorite track at the moment?
My favorite music genre depends on my mood. I listen to all kinds of Tech House when I’m searching for music for my work. If I want to chill out, I’d like to listen to R&B, Soul & Wave. But when I’m working out, I’d like to listen to Techno. This is the reason why I don’t have one favorite track.
